Meet Mrs. Ruhl

I am very excited to serve as Melrose Elementary School Counselor. I am a graduate of Westfield High School which is in New Jersey. I then attended Alfred University in New York State, and earned my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and minor in Sociology. I also attended the University of Pittsburg, my junior year of college, and spent a semester aboard through their Semester at Sea Program which allowed me to earn college credits and travel around the world. My favorite part of the Semester at Sea Program was learning about different cultures. I graduated from Penn State University with a Master's of Education in Secondary School Counseling. While at Penn State, I worked as a mental health technician at the Meadows Psychiatric Hospital on the Adolescent Unit. I was a 9th & 10th grade counselor at Big Spring High School for a year. I also was a 9th-12th grade counselor at Northern York High School for seven years. Before becoming an Elementary School Counselor I was a stay at home mom and pursued a business experience part time. Following this, I attended Shippensburg University and earned a certificate in elementary school counseling. I then attended Temple University and earned a Post-Master's in Play Therapy. I have also taken Adenture-Based & Adlerian courses at Shippensburg University to further my training.

In my free time I enjoy spending time with my husband, son, and daughter. I also enjoy the beach, hiking, the outdoors, biking, traveling, and learning about different cultures. It is my goal to continue to grow and improve as a school counselor. I look forward to my 12th year at Melrose as a School Counselor. The best part of being a school counselor at Melrose is working with the students, parents, and staff (Our Melrose Family). My hope is that all students will find their strengths, grow, and become respectful and responsible students.
